Marriage

Cake testing, bridal gowns, bridesmaids’ dresses, wedding venues – these are the plans that are underway for my son and his fiancée. In just six months, they will exchange their marriage vows.

This is another path along my empty nester’s journey. I can’t help but look back at my little tow-headed tike and recall his quiet and playful spirit. Look at him now! All grown up and starting his own family.

Thank God for the institution of marriage between a man and a woman. He established that union from the beginning, in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve. God knew that it was good for man and woman to be helpmates to one another. Man was made for woman, and woman for man. Throughout the Word of God, we see the great value God places on marriage. How can we not also honor this God-designed provision?!

Sadly, the governor of the state in which I live, Colorado, signed legislation yesterday recognizing civil unions between same-sex individuals. This is not God’s design.

I am privileged to work alongside folks who, although certainly not the “popular” thing to do, will stand up for righteousness in our hurting culture. Our nation is reeling from apathy and poor choices. Is it a lack of knowledge, a selfish mentality of entitlement or a blatant disregard for godliness? God help us at Family Talk to have a voice that speaks truth in love.

The next few months will hold many plans, expectations and decisions for my son and his soon-to-be wife. I am praying for God’s wisdom, protection and care to infuse them as they approach their wedding day. Let’s ask the Lord to guide and bless all of our young adults who are contemplating marriage or moving into relationships.

  1. You will make a phenomenal mother-in-law, Becky! And I agree -- it's heartbreaking that our politicians are tearing down this institution, as you son is about to embark upon it. We stand with you!

  2. Becky. Although I don't know you, I believe your greatness of a mother-in-law will not be diminished one iota ,because two people, who you don't know, who love each other ( as your son loves his future wife), marry and commit to each other.

  3. God's design for life has changed many times over in the last years, and it shouldn't matter whether if its a man and a wife, two women or two men that want to be married to each other. What matters is love, two people in love that want to share the rest of their lives together is what is important. The rest is politics. God wants us to be happy in our lives since it is the only one we got and HE is the only one that can pass judgement on anyone.
Was it God's design to stop using prayer in schools or anywhere else, to stop saying the pledge allegiance in schools. No it wasn't, but people and politics and their judgements on others has. Wish you luck with your son's wedding and happiness and you as a new mother-in-law.

    1. D, like many in our culture today, you have been greatly deceived by Satan, the enemy of God -- and the enemy of you. He is a master of deception and he has many believing what you believe, or other similar lies. Make no mistake, they are lies straight from the pit of hell. Spiritual warfare isnt talked about much, and yes, many such as you believe that God's truth has been diluted - but spiritual warfare is the key to life and everything that surrounds us. Satan's goal is clearly to kill, steal, and destroy, and his main weapons are cunning lies, half-truths, and persuasive temptations. But God's Holy Word has never changed -- it is timeless, eternal, and only His Truth will truly set you free. Dont take my word for it, seek the evidence yourself.

  4. wow, just wow. God's Word is the same Today as it was Yesterday so YES, it DOES matter. He created a woman for a man, not a man for a man. His Word clearly states that homosexuality is an abomination. God wants & expects us to follow His ways and not be "politically correct." So, as a Christian I will NOT compromise or give in to society's secular & perverse ways and it's about time more Christians stand up for what is RIGHT, not what is "politically correct!" And before anyone throws the "you are being judgemental" at me, let me say this: No, I am not being judgemental, I am just living what God has taught. It's HIS place to judge, not mine and I leave it in His hands to do so. We all sin and fall short of the Glory of God. However, when we sin and ask forgiveness, that means we do the sin no longer in order to be forgiven. God loves all of us, but He does have laws and clearly states who will and will not enter the gates of Heaven. So, you can either choose to live a life of sin or you can choose to live a life of God.

  5. Becky, I totally agree with you on this one!!!! I too as previous poster read the same word in my BIBLE that this is an abomination unto GOD and it is as clear as can be.
What is so sad is the denial that it is in there and I have read also it isn't our place to judge...but it is our place to live lives apart from this world and they will not like us or our ways as christians. While we don't stand in judgement of those who chose this lifestyle, we do stand as Christians and attest to God's words that will never change as He clearly states...I am the same yesterday, today and forever. He also says his ways are not our ways and we know we all fall short of the glory of GOD but there will be no doubt when he says that he will recognize the lukewarm that say they know him, but how can they know him when they don't follow his words or his commands??? We will all see the truth in the end as the end draws near. The bible also says that the last days will be as Sodom and we know what happened there. It is not all the word of God says but we know it is the Truth to those that believe and it will never change for politicians, or unbelievers, or those that wish it would be accepted. It is always hard to take a stand but we must stand or we will all fall!! Thank you for sharing your faith and being bold to take a stand!!
